Farm update—first bulbs and seeds!

ranunculus bulbs

Our bulbs and seeds just arrived last week! The bulbs are just for experiments since we didn't do any planting last fall, but I'm really excited about our seeds since they will be the backbone of the shop (bulbs from Terra Ceia Farms, seeds from Johnny's). One of the golden rules about PSF is to only take on what is manageable, so this year we stuck to ordering flowers known to be easy to grow in the southeast, in addition to an herb garden and edible flowers garden. Next year, though, I want to branch out into more unusual flowers, and take the time to make native species, perennials, and permaculture gardening principals a priority.

Now onto making a space to germinate and grow our seedlings (most useful books so far—The Flower Farmer, New Organic Grower, and Gardener to Gardener Seed-Starting Primer and Almanac). –Maggie
